Now is the perfect time to catch up on the TV shows you’ve been meaning to watch but just haven’t made the time for.
The lazy days of summer are perfect for catching up on your favorite TV shows. But what if you’re looking for something new? Here’s my TV Hit List of must-see programs. Make sure you’re all caught up by fall!
The Good Wife
The Good Wife is the best drama on network television, by far. You’ll root for heroine Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) as she navigates her way from stay-at-home motherhood to a powerful career, while the fearless, mysterious investigator friend/co-worker Kalinda (Archie Panjabi) keeps things interesting. All of the supporting characters are phenomenal, led by my favorite Alan Cumming. Rounding out the all-star cast are TV heavyweights Christine Baranski and Chris Noth. The writing is absolutely phenomenal, with brilliant twists and turns. Watch out: This past season featured a jaw-dropper development that was truly the best-kept secret on TV. Do not miss this show.
Disclosure: I haven’t watched a single episode. But so many people have told me that this juicy Kerry Washington drama is a must watch, that I’m committing to it as my own guilty pleasure catch-up of the summer. I’ve been told to watch it from the very beginning, so I will. Says a trusted friend: “Pop some popcorn, and press play. Scandal is can’t-miss TV that’s beautifully written and acted.” Sold!
Hot In Cleveland
Betty White is the main draw, and guest stars have included Mary Tyler Moore, Tim Conway, Susan Lucci, Don Rickles, Jimmy Kimmel, Sean Hayes and Joan Rivers. Enough said, right? White’s “Elka” slays the hilarious Jane Leeves in the cruelest fashion that is somehow side-splittingly funny, while Wendy Malick steals the show as a Hollywood actress on the downslope of her career. The premise? It’s The Golden Girls redux, as Leeves, Malick and Valerie Bertinelli leave LA behind to settle down in Cleveland with White. Drinking, men and hijinks ensue to heart-warming effect.
Dancing With The Stars
Oh, my trusty Dancing with the Stars! What’s not to love about live dancing and musical acts that have varied from Cirque du Soleil to Jennifer López? And then there are the celebs. My personal faves are always those young Disney kids who can really move (and anyone who turns out to be a better dancer than they look). I’m such a super-fan that I’ve even made it to LA to sit in as the live studio audience. Oh, yeah—guilty pleasure, for sure.
Masters Of Sex
The classic slow-burn: I kept pressing play “On Demand” although I wasn’t sure why—then by the end of the first season I felt absolutely gutted that it was over, agonizing about how I was going to wait for the next season. Well, that time is here! I’m off to watch the premiere episode—Lizzy Caplan and Michael Sheen have been burning up my DVR’s list of recordings for too many days already!
