Volunteering Seniors Are Rising In Numbers
Volunteering is a very important job that anyone can do because it involves helping someone else out. Audrey Hepburn once said, “You have two hands, one for helping yourself and one for helping others.” She’s right, volunteering is the best way to help someone else out.
Anyone can volunteer at any age but seniors are actually finding that volunteering is helpful for them in so many areas of their lives too. In fact, according to a new study released by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), senior volunteering is at an all time high for the first time in 10 years. The study shows that 1 in 3 volunteers is 55 or older. The study also reported that more than 20 million senior volunteers gave almost 3 billion hours of volunteer service.
Why are more seniors volunteering?
The answer is simple. Seniors are finding more enjoyment out of helping others. Not only are they becoming more active, many are becoming less depressed as well. Recent studies have shown that senior volunteers are showing increased strength, energy, and a decrease in physical limitations, an increase in memory, more friends and with less mortality rates.
