Superfoods are foods that are packed with many vitamins and minerals that can help to sustain a great, healthy body at any age. While these superfoods are targeted toward making the lives of seniors healthier, these are superfoods that anyone can eat.

  1. Apples: Apples contain many different natural ingredients that are great for the body. First of all, they are really high in fiber. This means they will not only lower cholesterol but they can slow the increase of glucose in the body as well, which in turn helps to manage blood sugar levels better. They are also full of vitamin C, antioxidants, and potassium.
  2. Blueberries: Much like apples, contain a lot of fiber, so they are very good for helping to manage blood sugar levels for people who have diabetes or hypoglycemia. They are also packed with vitamin C and K and are full of antioxidants.
  3. Broccoli: Broccoli is also very high in fiber. It has antioxidants as well, which is helpful in fighting against free radicals in the body that cause harm. Broccoli is also high in vitamin A, C, B9, and K.
  4. Coffee: Coffee has been debated for years. Is it good for you or bad for you? Well sources say that is actually is really good for but just like everything else you eat or drink, it should be done in moderation. The good thing about coffee however, is that you can have three to five cups a day and it will actually decrease the risks of developing Alzheimer’s disease. It had also been suggested that coffee can help protect women against breast cancer. Coffee has also been found to decrease the risk of stroke, heart attack, diabetes, and infections as well.
  5. Dark Chocolate: Dark chocolate is loaded with antioxidants, which if you haven’t guessed by now is really great for your body. It is also chocked full of polyphenols and flavonoids, which can help to prevent heart attacks because it helps to unclog arteries. It is also helpful in lowering blood pressure.
  6. Oatmeal: Oatmeal has a lot of fiber which is helpful in lower cholesterol and managing blood sugar. It is also a low fat, high in protein breakfast food that has many minerals including, iron.
  7. Olive Oil: Olive oil is a great replacement for all the other cooking oils out there. It is helpful in lowering cholesterol levels and decreasing the risk of heart disease. It can also help to improve blood sugar levels as well. The vitamin K olive oil can help with blood clotting while the vitamin E in olive oil can help with creating more red blood cells.
  8. Pears: Pears as well as apples are very high in fiber, which can help manage your blood sugar levels. That alone can help to protect against diabetes. Pears can also be used as a filler food, so that you will feel hungry less. They have been suggested to decrease the risk of colon cancer and are full of antioxidants, vitamin C, folic acid, and potassium.

By eating these superfoods throughout the week, you will start to notice changes in your body. The great thing about these foods is that they are healthy at any age too!
