Chocolate has always be controversial. Many studies have been created to show whether chocolate is good for the body or bad. Recent studies have shown that chocolate in fact has many great health benefits. One of the greatest ways that chocolate can help is through weight loss. Studies have shown that chocolate health benefits can include losing more weight than those who do not eat chocolate.

Chocolate comes from the cacao plant and it is full of many antioxidants, which play an important role in keeping the immune system healthy. Antioxidants fight against free radicals that cause the body to become sick. Milk chocolate does not have as many benefits but dark chocolate is chocked full of great antioxidants. Raw chocolate bars and truffles are great ways to get the most benefits of chocolate since they have not been processed like others.

Lower Blood Pressure with Chocolate

Flavonoids in dark chocolate can lower blood pressure while also helping to decrease LDL (bad cholesterol) as well. While this might lead to the idea to eat as much as possible to lower blood pressure, it’s rather quite counter intuitive and can actually render other problems since chocolate tends to be high in calories. To lower blood pressure successfully and maintain a healthy weight, eat chocolate in moderation. A few pieces a day is sufficient.

Dark chocolate and green leafy veggies have a significant amount of magnesium in them and magnesium plays a very important role for more than 300 chemical reactions in the human body. It is used to regulate the cardiovascular, neurological, and digestive system and it is also used to convert food into energy. All the nerves and muscles in the human body rely on magnesium so that they can function properly. It is also used to regulate the heartbeat as well.  By eating one hundred grams of chocolate, the body is obtaining 176 mg of magnesium, which is more than half of what the daily recommendation is for a woman who is over the age of 31.

Chocolate has great health benefits and there are so many great ways to eat it, but you should do so in moderation.
