The U.S. Census Bureau says that the Baby Boomer generation makes up 78 million people, as of last Census in 2006. That approximates to 26.1 percent of the entire U.S. population. No wonder people are always talking about them.
California is Baby Boomer Central
California hosts more Baby Boomers than any other U.S. state. It is home to almost 9 million of them, which puts it above Texas (5.6 million), New York (5.1 million), Florida (4.6 million) and Pennsylvania (3.4 million).
Vermont Has Highest Concentration of Baby Boomers
There are more Baby Boomers living in Vermont per capita than any other state. They comprise over 30 percent of this state’s population. Main comes in second place at 29.8 percent and New Hampshire in third with 29.7 percent.
About One-Third of Baby Boomer Generation is College Educated
Education is of great importance to the Baby Boomer generation. About 28.8 percent have earned a Bachelor’s degree or higher. About 28.9 have at least attended some college.
Over Half of Baby Boomers Support Their Adult Children
The National Center for Policy Analysis took a look at the Baby Boomer generation in 2012. It found out that this generation is most likely to support their adult children financially with 59 percent providing financial support.
The Baby Boomer Generation is Frugal
Sure, Baby Boomers may help their children out, but when it comes to personal spending they are frugal. From the years 1999 until 2010, Baby Boomer spending on food, entertainment, clothing and furnishings decreased with each year.
Females Outnumber Males
While the numbers are still nearly evenly mixed, females are slowly overtaking males in the Baby Boomer generation. As of 2006, there were 96 males to 100 females.
Two-Thirds Have Gotten Married
Over 65 percent of all Baby Boomers are married. Just a meager 11 percent have never been married. And about 17 percent are divorced, separated or widowed.
Most Baby Boomers Own a Home
The American Dream of owning a home is a mainstay for the Baby Boomer generation. Facts culled by the National Association of Realtors show that almost 80 percent own their own home, and at least one in four owns property.
